Nancee is an American/ British artist living in London. Hailing from New York, she has studied art in New York, San Francisco and London. Having spent her professional career as an interior designer, she finds that one constantly informs the other.

Over the years, Nancee has painted every genre from still life and portraits to landscape. She is now happy to focus and showcase her collection of Flower Portraits. They are bold, they are colourful and they are fun!

A full on colourist and figurative painter, Nancee tries to express the joy and beauty in life through her expressive Flower Portraits. The mixing of colours and the application of layers of paint is such a joy to her. Starting with big brushes and broad strokes down to smaller brushes and the details is all part of what goes into each painting. “I love getting lost in the process of painting, the rest of the world goes away while I am immersed in colour and textures”.

Shown during a portrait show at Heatherley School of Fine Art, Nancee stands beside one of her small portrait paintings, done on a linen canvas.

Nancee paints large scale intimate Flower Portraits. By exaggerating the scale she can illustrate the intricate details found in the innermost folds of the petals.

Working on a large scale she can bring you into the flowers to appreciate both the geometry of its construction and the organic nature of its petals and leaves. It is this dichotomy of forces that unite to create such dynamic and fascinating images.

There is also an element of having us stop and really look at something that we don’t often see close up. Painting the flowers up close and personal is a way to force us to slow down and really look at what we are seeing. The world whizzes by us at such a fast pace that part of my goal is to stop and smell the proverbial roses!
